The Dakelh First Nations Primary Care Society (DFNPCS) was established in 2022 by the Dakelh First Nations Primary Care Centre (Dakelh-PCC)  to service the communities of Tl’azt’en Nation, Binche Whut’en and Nak’azdli Whut’en. Dakelh First Nations Primary Care Centre (Dakelh-PCC) is a partnership between the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) to support First Nations communities to develop and enhance innovative primary healthcare services and delivery models that consider the social determinants of health and enhanced access to culturally safe and trauma-informed care.

Initiative service locations, called “Primary Care Centres” (PCCs), will employ wholistic team-based models to meet pressing primary healthcare needs of First Nations living in both rural and urban settings. Although the Initiative sites will target First Nations populations, the Initiative will be open to all Indigenous people, as well as non-Indigenous people consistent with a no barriers to care approach.

The Dakelh First Nations Primary Care Centre is envisioned to work as part of a strategic integrated system under the roof of one Wellness Centre within a culturally safe model that integrates family and community supports consistent with a no barriers to care model. The Dakelh-PCC will integrate the Bah’lats System – organized around clan systems and structured to maintain balance and settle disputes. The Bah’lat’s system informs core economic, political, social, legal and spiritual practices, including the potlatch.

The Dakelh First Nations Primary Care Centre will work collaboratively with local health partners to tailor services in support of efficiently aligning service delivery to maximize culturally safe, trauma informed wraparound care and minimize duplication of services.
